Gunpowder Falls / Jumpstart II 

(May 2-4, 2025)

Troop 680 went camping the weekend of May 2-4 at Camp Cone in Gunpowder Falls State Park.   This time Troop 680 camped at site 4, which was near the trail to Long Green Creek, a tributary that feeds into Big Gunpowder Falls.  The campout was led by the Troop's Assistant Senior Patrol Leader who planned a great "Jumpstart II" program to help the recent AOL crossover Scouts who missed the regular Jumpstart campout in March complete the requirements for Scout Rank.  Other Scouts also worked on requirements in the morning.  In the afternoon, the Troop hiked down to Long Green Creek for fishing and a little swimming / wading in the creek.  Although the water was not very deep, there was a large and deep fishing hole in one area, and although the Scouts could see fish, none were biting.   Later, two Troop 680 Scouts rescued a Trail Life Scout non-swimmer who was unaware of the fishing hole area and nearly drowned.  (Way to go George B. and Daniel B!!)  Unfortunately, due to severe thunderstorms Saturday evening, the adult leaders decided that the weather conditions were deteriorating sufficiently to warrant returning home before a large front hit the area at midnight.  Additional photos are available through the photo albums on the restricted pages.

  • May 16 - Annual Troop Swim Test from 7:00 PM tp 9:00 PM at George Washington Recreation Center.  Sign-up via the Sign-up Genius on the restricted pages.

  • May 17/18 - Electronics Recycling before and after every mass at Good Shepherd  (Scout volunteers needed). 

  • May 18 - PLC Meeting at 5:00 PM at Northrop Hall

  • May 25 - Regular Troop Meeting at 5:00 PM at Good Shepherd.  The theme for May is water sports / activities and we will be learning about canoes and canoeing.

• May 17 and 18 - Assisting Good Sheperd Care for Creation with electronics recycling collection after all masses.

• May 18 - Last Day for AOL crossover Scouts to sign-up for summer camp at the Tier 1 price of $540.

• June 20-22 - Whitewater Rafting Trip (sign-up not yet open)
