(1) Notes from the Colonial District Round Table meeting December 13, 2006

• Thank you to Bob Keegan who attended,took notes and sent them electronically for this update.
• Troops turned in their Merit Badge Jamboree forms; the Merit Badge Jamboree is Saturday February 17, 2007.
• Venture Crew 80 announced that they are an authorized provider of Red Cross heath and safety training. Crew 80 now offers First Aid training courses. CPR/AED (cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defribulator) and Wilderness First Aid training offered.  CPR/AED is 4 hours and costs $15; and Wilderness First Aid training is 15 hours and costs $40.  Philmont requires attendees have Wilderness First Aid training.  Handout available.  Info from Dick Harman at WA4USB@ARRL.NET
• The District Executive, Kelly O’Neill declared Scout Expo was a success.  Troop 680 had a booth manned by Mike Millikin and Patrick Martin; materials developed by Pam Johnson (recruiting powerpoint) and Mary Aring-Martin (photo display board; Eagle display plaques) with significant help from Scouts and Maryann Fay.  The Council is only 30 scouts from reaching goal and being declared a quality council.  Call Kelly with any new scouts.

• Each Troop should be signed up for a Friend of Scouting presentation.  Troop 680 will have a presentation this Tuesday December 19, 2006.  Last year’s total donations were posted broken down by Pack and Troop.
• Order of the Arrow
• Camping January 13-14, 2007 at Ft. Belvoir
• Each troop should fill out the 2007 Order of the Arrow Elections forms (handout available and an electronic version will be e-mailed).  Scouts and adults can be nominated for election. Adult election is not honorary, but rather involves a commitment to drive to, participate in, and help run the program.
• We can nominate as many scouts as eligible and must nominate at least one adult for every 50 scouts.

• Merit Badge Counseling will be offered right before the January Roundtable if there is an interest (at least 3 Scouts).  E-mail Dominic Caridi at: Dominic.Caridi@TSA.GOV if you intend to go.
• Topic for the Month – RECRUITING WEBELOS.  Ideas – attend back to school night; have an open house; visit Packs in your area; include Webelos in camping and other outings; offer Den Chiefs to Packs; visit schools before bridging.  First Class Requirements is that each scout “Tell someone who is eligible to join Boy Scouts, or an inactive Boy Scout, about your troop's activities. Invite him to a troop outing, activity, service project, or meeting. Tell him how to join, or encourage the inactive Boy Scout to become active.”
• Bob Keegan has a registration packet for the GW Birthday Parade in Old Town on Monday February 19, 2007.

• The following merit badges will be offered:  Aviation; Coin Collection; Collections; Composite Materials; Electricity; Electronics; Emergency  Preparedness; Fire Safety; First Aid; Geology; Indian Lore; Space Exploration; Stamp Collecting; and Weather.
• The cost is $10 per person. Boy Scout Troops can reserve a campsite and come for the weekend. (Handout available).

• The "Eagle Procedures Guide" is for the adult leaders who are working with Life Scouts working to earn their Eagle rank. Unit leaders should share the contents of this guide with each Eagle candidate so that he fully understands the procedures which must be followed. The purpose of this guide is to address commonly asked questions and issues encountered in completing the "12 Steps From Life to Eagle Rank." It is not intended to answer all questions. If a unit leader or an Eagle candidate is unsure of a particular step or requirement, do not hesitate to call your District Advancement Chairman. The guide describes the 12 steps from Life to Eagle.
