(1) Notes from the Colonial District Round Table meeting October 11, 2006

Den Chief Training is ON for this Saturday October 14, 2006 near Tyson's Corner. Contact Roger Claff, 703-4435-4686 to register. Advance registration required prior to October 14.
District Camporee

October 20-22 at Highroad (Middleburg, VA)
New trebuchet plans with more detailed info--see http://troop680.net and look under the "Calendar Information" section. Remember that all parts for building the trebuchet (catapult) are provided; your registration fee covers the cost for these parts.
278 Scouts and Scouters have signed up to attend from one-half of the units in Colonial District.
49th Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA) will occur at the Camporee. To obtain the handout, please contact John Millikin.
Renaissance Theme; Scouts encouraged to wear costume appropriate to the theme
Cub and Webelos Scouts may attend this Camporee, and they may stay overnight with appropriate Pack/Adult supervision

Scouting for Food is November 4 (Bag Distribution by Pack 680) and November 11 (Bag/Food pick up by Troop 680 and the two Webelos Dens from Pack 680). Thanks to Tom Schulte who picked up the bags and maps for T680.
Scouts and units are encouraged to recruit new members.

This course occurs in 2007--Jan 13, 20, 27 and Feb 3, 10. Cost is $30. Age--no limit, but parental accompaniment recommended if under age 14. Registration fee (cash or check) collected January 13, 2007 at the first session.

December -- High Adventure camps, e.g., www.mainehighadventure.org (approx $70/person/day), Northern Tier (approx $50/person/day), etc., mainly focusing on camps in the northeastern United States.

District Merit Badge Jamboree

All registered Scouters are encouraged to complete Adult Leader training, to earn the Leader's Training Award and to earn Wood Badge beads.

Wood Badge Training Course -- "the top adult leader training program in the Scouting program. It is a program of leadership and Scoutcraft skills training, which when completed, provides exposure ot all the skills necessary to run an outstanding Scout program."

The "Eagle Procedures Guide" is for the adult leaders who are working with Life Scouts working to earn their Eagle rank. Unit leaders should share the contents of this guide with each Eagle candidate so that he fully understands the procedures which must be followed. The purpose of this guide is to address commonly asked questions and issues encountered in completing the "12 Steps From Life to Eagle Rank." It is not intended to answer all questions. If a unit leader or an Eagle candidate is unsure of a particular step or requirement, do not hesitate to call your District Advancement Chairman. The guide describes the 12 steps from Life to Eagle. The "Eagle Procedures Guide" has been updated and can be downloaded [as described above]. Please note that this is a large file (1.03 MB) that may take a few minutes to download.
