Hi -- here are notes from the Colonial District Round Table meeting January 11, 2006 from Dominick Caridi:

Hello all and thanks for attending the January BSRT.  I hope the BSRT continues to meet your needs.  Our minutes are as follows:

Thank you to Henry Ruempler and David Lewis for their presentation on training youth leaders.  Some other items of interest here --

  1. The week-long, Council-delivered NYLT (Impeesa) is scheduled for 6/24-7/1 and 7/22-7/29 at Goshen, these are two separate courses.
  2. While the new Unit YLT has a different content, the video clips used in the older, JLT are still useful.  You may also want to add additional videos that help illustrate leadership skills or styles.  For example, Saving Private Ryan (when the squad charges the MG42 and the medic is KIA); Gettysburg (when Col. Chamberlain addresses the men of the 2nd Maine); We Where Soldiers Once (during helicopter assault exercise when Col Moore instructs everyone to the know the job of the one above and the one below); and, Renaissance Man (the rainy night exercise when the recruits recite Henry’s speech from Henry the V just before the battle of Agincourt).  There are many others, these are just a few.
  3. I’ve attached a PDF on Initiative Games, these can be used to great benefit in your unit YLT program.
  4. I’ve asked Lin Jongema to coordinate/support the district’s YLT efforts.  Please contact him, if you need support/advice regarding your unit YLY program.  Lin will also be coordinating the JLTW that will be offered at the Spring Camporee.  Lin can reached at ljongem@aol.com.
Thank you for the very productive discussion around OA issues.
  1. Everyone agreed that communication is a very key issue and should be worked on first.  To subscribe to the Chapter’s list send an email to CD-OA-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
  2. Will Greg provided us a tremendous example of what an engaged, self-assured Arrowman looks like, his hand out is attached.  Will is scheduled for a short presentation at the Feb BSRT.
  3. The Feb 12th OA meeting WILL take place at Aldersgate from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
  4. The idea of building upon OA traditions (cheerful service and fellowship) was advanced as a way of engaging the youth in the chapter.  Two Scouters have stepped up to jump-start a plan that incorporates a service project with an all night movies, games and food lock-in.
