Hi -- here are
my notes from the Colonial District Round Table meeting September 14, 2005:
-
The main topic of this month's Round
Table was training.
-
Please see the troop calendar on our
Troop 680 web site for details including contact persons, course titles,
dates and locations for currently scheduled Colonial District training
for adults (adult leaders = Scouters).
-
For example, Back Country Outdoor Leader
Skills (1) is offered April 1, 2006 and session 2 is April 8-9, 2006, location
to be announced.
-
To request in-unit committee training,
please contact Larry Creech at Larry.W.Creech@verizon.net or Larry.W.Creech@usbs.gov.
-
Future topics may include: Membership
(older boys); Operations (preparing for outings; games at troop meetings;
the patrol method; prepare for summer camp); Advancement (Eagle; new Scouts;
effective boards of review; Merit Badges in the troop); Troop Support (parent
involvement); Training (adult leaders).
-
The October 15 Colonial District activity
will be a hike on the C&O Canal Towpath instead of a camporee/campout.
-
The Spring Camporee will be determined
by input from Scouts and Scouters in the Colonial District. Possible locations
include: Fredericksburg; Harper's Ferry (the former George Washington District
went here in the 1990s); Gettysburg; Manassas; Sharpsburg; Petersburg.
-
Troop 680 was one of six troops that
had 100% attendance at the 2004-2005 Round Tables; a ribbon was given and
that can be added to the troop's ribbon collection.
-
One troop representative discussed a
trip to Northern Tier / canoeing to Ely, Minnesota near the Canadian border
this past summer. A group to Northern Tier can consist of up to nine Scouts/Scouters.
Portages can be tough.
